Main Purpose


This is new position in the finance team. It is part of the update to the finance team designed to take on responsibilities of AP team members who left, and the processing level tasks from the Management Accountant.

Key Responsibilities


  • Processing foreign currency and goods import invoices, carrying out key financial checks on import documents to ensure accuracy, and working closely with Product Managers and freight forwarders to resolve any issues identified
  • Processing and reconciling bank accounts and company credit card transactions
  • Managing lease records and processing invoices across property, vehicles, and equipment, while ensuring lease accounting is in line with UK accounting standards (on-balance sheet approach)
  • Maintaining and updating the fixed asset register, ensuring all CAPEX transactions and costs are captured in line with accounting and tax rules
  • Assisting with accruals and prepayments, ensuring costs are recognised in the correct period
  • Performing balance sheet and supplier reconciliations, investigating and resolving any discrepancies
  • Supporting the month-end close, including preparing and posting journal entries
  • Taking ownership of allocated finance reports, ensuring they are accurate and delivered on time
  • Contributing to the preparation of VAT returns and developing your understanding of VAT input and output rules relevant to the business
  • Getting involved with year-end processes and the preparation of statutory accounts
  • Working in line with internal controls, policies, and accounting standards
  • Supporting the Management Accountant and Finance Manager with a range of ad-hoc tasks

 

Required Skills & Qualifications


  • Advanced Excel skills, with a proactive approach to improving processes and reducing manual inputs and manipulation of data
  • Strong working knowledge of double-entry bookkeeping and reconciliations
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • A proactive mindset, with the confidence to ask questions, identify opportunities, and suggest improvements
  • Commitment to maintaining strong data integrity and adhering to internal controls
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team
  • Someone with desire and commitment to study towards ACCA or CIMA
  • Previous experience in an Assistant Accountant, Bookkeeper or similar role, with exposure to end-to-end transactional processes and month-end activities
  • Working knowledge of UK VAT rules and regulations
  • Basic knowledge or accounting rules and standards
  • Previous experience using accounting systems is advantageous
